Europe and the World | Exploring Europe's role in a global context

Overview

The Una Europa Self-Steering Committee in Europe and the World represents a dynamic constellation of scholars, researchers, and thought leaders from across Europe, united by a shared commitment to exploring the complex interplay between Europe and global realities. Through a diverse range of academic disciplines and research initiatives, the Self-Steering Committee seeks to foster cross-border collaboration, generate impactful scholarship, and shape the future of European studies within a global context.

At its core, the Self-Steering Committee in Europe and the World is a platform for intellectual exchange, bridging history, politics, law, economics, culture, and environmental studies. Members contribute unique perspectives, from studying the European Union’s evolving role in global governance to interrogating the legacies of colonialism, the green transition, and the shifting dynamics of international law. This diversity not only enriches individual research but amplifies the collective capacity to address contemporary global challenges through interdisciplinary approaches.

The Self-Steering Committee actively cultivates opportunities for collaboration across Una Europa, leveraging joint research programmes, co-supervised PhD candidates, and summer schools. The Committee serves as an incubator for pioneering projects that tackle pressing issues such as migration, human rights, gender equality, sustainability, and digital transformation. By linking local, national, and international dimensions, the Self-Steering Committee positions itself as a hub of knowledge production, policy innovation, and scholarly leadership.

Through its members' efforts, the Self-Steering Committee in Europe and the World aims to shape European narratives that are both self-reflective and outward-looking, aware of the continent's historical complexities yet eager to embrace its potential as a global actor. In doing so, we hope to nurture a new generation of researchers and students equipped to navigate, critique, and contribute to Europe’s role in a transforming world.
